The book is intended for a single semester course, introducing students to the basic principles of classical communications theory and shows them real world applications explaining the theory. It covers Voice Digitization, Digital Transmission and Multiplexing, Digital Modulation and Radio Systems and Network Synchronization Control and Management. In addition, the book covers advanced concepts such as Fiber Optic Transmission Systems, Digital Mobile Telephony, Data and Asynchronous Transfer Mode Networks, Digital Subscriber Access and Traffic Analysis. It is an indispensable resource for all electronics engineers.About John C. BellamyJohn C. Bellamy was an American electrical engineer and academician. He served as an adjunct professor in the electrical engineering department of Southern Methodist University, teaching courses in telecommunications and computer programming.A graduate of the University of Wyoming, Dr. Bellamy pursued his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Arizona. He worked with systems design and the development of systems for: digital switching, microwave transmission, cellular telephones, optical fiber networks, digital signal processing, and packet data based networks. He also owned several patents in communications systems technology. An active contributor to the Dallas Chapter of the IEEE, Dr. Bellamy received the 1996 Fred W. Ellersick Prize Paper Award for the best tutorial paper, for his "Digital Network Synchronization," which was featured in the 1995 IEEE Communications magazine.
