When a decent life and your freedom is taken away from you, what would you do? Directed by Steve McQueen and starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Giamatti and Brad Pitt, 12 Years a Slave is a historical drama film that tells the real-life story of Solomon Northup. A well-to-do African-American, Solomon, a citizen of New York, is abducted and forced to work on a plantation in New Orleans. Put into the ruthless slavery trade due to unpredictable and vicious circumstances, Solomon must now find a way to attain liberation so he can start living life once again, in contrast to barely surviving. Having won 3 Academy Awards and a Golden Globe as well, this movie is truly enlightening and captivating.
