About the Book:-A huge collection of Tamil proverbs arranged under several headings. There are 3644 proverbs listed under about 300 headings. The edition of proverbs brought out by the author is decidedly an improvement upon its predecessors. Its classification under appropriate heads gives it a superior aspect, facilitating one to lay his hand on what he wants which he cannot do in a collection simply alphabetically arranged, the advantage of which is also combined in the edition by the index of the initial words. This collection of proverbs is a selection from the thousands that are given in our Tamil proverb collections, and also from the many he has come across when reading Tamil books and conversing with Tamil people. Though he feels sure that there are a good number of real household proverbs he has not given that ought to be in such a collection as this, he is at the same time convinced that there cannot be very many. About the Author:-Hermann Jansen was a German architect, urban planner and university educator. In the years prior to 1908, the District of Berlin and its surrounding towns and cities had witnessed immense growth due to private investment. Due to the unplanned nature of growth in the city, several key urban challenges surfaced. These included the provision of housing, capacity for efficient transport, and the demand for public open spaces. With pressures mounting, the city saw planning a means of directing growth, and in 1908 put forth the ‘Groẞ-Berlin' (Greater Berlin) competition. The competition required planners and architects to put forth design that would link central Berlin with surrounding towns in the regions to form a metropolis, spanning from the historic center to outer suburbs.4.
