Summary of the Book This book is a classic expression of women’s right and their empowerment. This is one of the most popular dramas of the Norwegian playwright and poet, Henrik Ibsen. This play in prose is significant for its critical attitude towards the marriage norms in the 19th century. The protagonist of the book is Nora who rejects a suffocating marriage and the mundane life in a doll’s house and embarks on a journey to discover herself. The play analyzes the self sacrifice of women in a male-dominated society. About Henrik Johan Ibsen Henrik Ibsen was a prolific 19th century Norwegian playwright, theater director and poet. He was born in a well-to-do merchant family in a small town of Skien in Norway on March 20, 1828. Ibsen wrote his first play at the age twenty-one, which was a five-act tragedy called Catiline. Like much of his early work, Catiline was written in verse. He is known as the 'Father of Realism' and is one of the founders of Modernism in theater. His other famous work include Brand, Peer Gynt, An Enemy of the People, Emperor and Galilean, Hedda Gabler, Ghosts, The Wild Duck, Rosmersholm, and The Master Builder.
