A New World is a contemporary novel by Amit Chaudhuri. Summary of the Book An economics professor travels home with his young son. It has been a year since his divorce and Jayojit Chatterjee hopes to find the change he desires at his parents’ home. His son, Bonny, lives with with his mother in California. Jayojit hopes to spend some time with Bonny, more than he hopes to spend with his father, the Admiral, and his wife, who follow a rhythmic routine which is unnervingly foreign to him. However, these four people find that they are unable to pass time in each other’s company, and the summer hours turn as long as they are hot. This is the story of a family which tries to stick together despite the differences between its members. About Amit Chaudhuri Amit Chaudhuri is an Indian writer and academic, currently a Visiting Professor at Columbia University, and Samuel Fischer Guest Professor of Literature at Freie Universität Berlin. Chaudhuri is also known for A Strange and Sublime Address, Afternoon Raag, Freedom Song and A New World. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award, the Infosys Prize for Humanities-Literary Studies, the Rabindra Puraskar and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize.
