We, the Jyotisha-people, whenever encounter with such as queries like longevity assessment, feel ensnared in a bushy and shrubby area of Jyotisha. Even being the densest area of the subject, it is one of the essentials that are must to know for every practitioner, teacher and student. Somewhere in the year 1984-85 when I was writing commentary on the Aayur-Nirnaya, a hand-written Sanskrit manuscript on the topic, had to provide explanations and examples strictly in accordance with the scriptures, but that all left a question-mark in my mind as there was no such method that would reveal some trustworthy and near-fact results. Since then, I kept regularly churning the scriptures and found that the methods stated in the classics are not fully unreliable but they call for some modifications according to the present era. The methods yield results, trustworthy up to extent, when applied in a proper stipulated manner subject to the fulfilment of the relevant condition.
