Summary of the Book Hercule Poirot is known for his penchant for solving macabre murders. In fact, he is known so well that he seems to receive fan mail. When he opens the letter, he discovers that it is not fan mail, but a challenge. The writer, calling himself A.B.C., calls Poirot out on his prized grey cells and tells him that he is about to commit a murder. He tells him the place and challenges him to try and stop him. Poirot dismisses the letter for the ravings of a madman or charlatan, but he is about to regret it. Soon, there is a murder, and it happens just where A.B.C. said it would.
