There is a tide in the affairs of men, and in Taken At The Flood, it always leads to misfortune. This murder mystery by Agatha Christie features the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot in one of his best cases. Summary of the Book When Gordon Cloade marries a gorgeous young widow, he didn’t realize how that would change his fortunes forever. He turns up dead after a few weeks, killed in the London Blitz. The twice-widowed girl is the sole inheritor of his fortunes. However, when Mr. Cloade’s sister-in-law pays Hercule Poirot a visit, she makes a startling statement: the woman’s first husband is still alive. However, Poirot’s attention falls more on the sister-in-law and her intentions than the supposedly alive husband. About Agatha Christie Agatha Christie was an English novelist best known for her murder mystery novels. She created several best-selling storylines centred around timeless characters such as Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, Tommy and Tuppence and Parker Pyne. Some of her best known books are The Mysterious Affair at Styles, Curtain: Poirot’s Last Case, And Then There Were None and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. This novel was alternately titled There Is A Tide. Taken At The Flood was adapted into an episode of Agatha Christie’s Poirot, starring David Suchet.
