Accidental Death of an Anarchist is one of Fo's most hilarious and incisive plays. Moving briskly through a series of farcical situations, it exposes the hypocrisy and anti-people character of the bourgeois society and its " sacred" institutions-the police, the judiciary, the religion, and the media. Originally written and performed in Italian in 1970, it has been adapted into almost every major language of the world. In English alone, several published and unpublished adaptations have been made. This edition uses the 1990 adaptation by Alan Cumming and Tim Supple because of its relatively greater faithfulness to the Italian original. For the benefit of the students, this Critical Companion is included with the text. Besides a detailed introduction to Fo's work in the theatre, it comprises documents and critical essays.
