This book tells readers about the physical and mental stress that German soldiers went through during the war. It is the story of Paul Baumer, a man who became part of the German army during the start of World War. Summary of the Book Paul and his classmates were encouraged by their school teacher to join the German army. They did, and were proud of their decision to serve in the army. However, what followed was the experience of the many horrors of war that brought about a lot of mental stress for Paul. The story gives readers an idea of what really goes on in the battle field and the conditions that soldiers often find themselves in. There is lack of food and young recruits are not trained well. Paul’s experiences will give us a good view of the life of soldiers. About Erich Maria Remarque Erich Maria Remarque was a German author who has created many works. He is best known for his novel, All Quiet On The Western Front. He made his first attempts at writing at the age of sixteen. These included essays, poems, and the beginnings of novels that were finished later. He made his second literary start with the novel Station at the Horizon. He has worked as a librarian, businessman, journalist and editor.
