Neem or Azadirachta indica is a tree in the mahogany family Meliaceae. In East Africa, it is also known as Muarubaini in Swahili, which means the tree of the 40, as it is said to treat 40 different diseases. In India, the tree is variously known as “Divine Tree,” “Heal All,” “Nature's Drugstore” or “Sarvaroghari” for all diseases. In Arabic it is called neeb. Products made from Neem have proven medicinal properties, being antiparasitic, antifungal, anti-diabetic, anti-bacterial and anti-viral as well as being helpful for blood circulation. It is also helpful in reducing the requirement for insulin by 60-70%, however, the glucose levels remain intact. Oral doses of neem oil significantly reduce insulin requirements for insulin dependent diabetes and have also been scientifically proven to be effective in treating and preventing diabetes.
