A classic book on the number theory, this is the best guide for a beginner who wishes to gain a balanced view on number theory. Summary Of The Book Penned by internationally respected and recognised mathematicians, this book is a famous staple text for the broad subject of number theory. An Introduction To The Theory Of Numbers has been divided into 11 chapters, some of which are Simple Continued Fractions, The Partition Function, Functions of Number Theory, Divisibility, Quadratic Reciprocity and Quadratic Forms, The Density of Sequences of Integers, and Diophantine Equations. Towards the end of the book, there are appendices for topics like Symmetric Functions, Fundamental Theorem of Algebra, and Linear Recurrences. This particular fifth edition of the book addresses a range of calculational issues and consists of certain revisions and additions, including information regarding Rational Points on Curves, Dirichlet series, Public-key Cryptography, Asymptotic Density, and much more. In order to provide the best possible understanding of the concepts discussed in An Introduction To The Theory Of Numbers, the authors have used longer proofs that serve as better insights for developing ones mathematical acumen. The author have included many problems with varying difficulty in this book. This book is suitable for undergraduates and students starting their graduate course.  About The Authors Hugh L. Montgomery is an Author and Mathematician. His publications include Exploring Number Theory, Topics in Multiplicative Number Theory, Ten Lectures on the Interface Between Analytic Number Theory and Harmonic Analysis, and Computational Laboratories in Number Theory. He was born on the 26th of August, 1944. Montgomery received his Ph.D from the University of Cambridge. He currently teaches at the University of Michigan. He has also written a wide range of research articles on topics such as large sieve, additive number theory, prime numbers and exponential sums. Ivan Niven was a Mathematician and Author. In addition to this, his other works include Numbers: Rational and Irrational, Mathematics: A House Built on Sand?, Maxima and Minima Without Calculus, Calculus: An Introductory Approach, and Mathematics of Choice. He was born on the 25th of October, 1915 in Vancouver, Canada. He is known for his research in expository writing and number theory. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of British Columbia, and subsequently his Ph.D from the University of Chicago. He served as a Professor at various universities including the University of Oregon, Stanford University, Purdue University and University of British Columbia. Niven was an avid reader who enjoyed fishing and swimming. Niven died on the 9th of May, 1999.
