The story begins when a massive comet collides with Earth, causing a group of people, along with a portion of land, to be flung into space and onto the surface of the comet. Among the survivors are Captain Hector Servadac, his loyal orderly Ben Zoof, and a diverse group of characters, including soldiers, civilians, and even a Spanish actress.As they find themselves on the comet, which they name Gallia, the group must adapt to their new celestial surroundings. They discover that Gallia has its own atmosphere and gravity, making survival possible.
