About the Authors Amartya Sen is an Indian economist and author. His fields of interest are welfare economics, development economics and ethics. Jean Dreze is an economist and author. He is a social activist and works on issues like hunger, famine, gender equality and child health. Dreze has co-authored the books Hunger and Public Action, The Political Economy of Hunger and Social Security in Developing Countries.
