His tremendous contribution to Indian historical studies has earned him the title of ‘the dean of Indian historians’. Majumdar was born in 1888 in Bangladesh. His childhood was one filled with poverty. Majumdar’s academic life was spent in colleges like Ripon College, Presidency College, and the University of Calcutta. His teaching career started at Dacca Government Training College. Majumdar was a professor of history at the University of Calcutta for seven years. He also taught for the University of Dacca and held important positions like that of the Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Faculty of Arts, and Head of the Department of History. Majumdar also worked for Benares Hindu University as the Principal of the College of Indology.
