Summary of the Book When Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert decide to adopt a young child to keep them company in their old age, they asked around to adopt a young boy. Through a misunderstanding, they receive a spunky young girl called Anne, an orphan from Bolingbroke, Nova Scotia. Marilla decides to send Anne back, but then keeps her around hoping that another woman in town might take her instead. However, Anne goes about changing the elderly siblings’ opinion of her with her intelligence and charm. The red-haired girl wins their hearts and the hearts of several people on the island. As the years go by, she becomes an irreplaceable part of this strange family, and changes the lives of everyone around her. About L. M. Montgomery Lucy Maud Montgomery was a Canadian novelist known for the above novel and its sequels. The book has been adapted into several films and a popular musical.
