Gaillardia – What a dazzling burst of red for your garden that’s easily grown from Gaillardia seeds! This Blanket Flower grows 10 inches tall. Deep red, fluffy flowers emerge in the heat of the summer and stand well above the simple foliage. These showy flowers are attractive to butterflies and command attention in the landscape. Flowers measure about 2 inches across when in full bloom. Gallardia Sundance looks especially good when planted in mass in full sun. Gaillardia There are more than two dozen species of Gaillardia, and most of these are native to North America including Gaillardia pulchella. Deadheading will prolong flowering. Gaillardia Sundance likes hot, sunny areas. It also needs good drainage as soggy soil will cause root rot in winter. This Gaillardia Blanket Flower is a drought tolerant flower. If sowing Gaillardia seeds indoors, start 6 – 8 weeks before the last frost, use sterile starting soil and starter trays. Press the flower seeds into the soil and barely cover.
