In the festival of Deepawali, Lakshmi Puja is done with the same spirit that Goddess Lakshmi should be pleased and bring the light of wealth. According to the scriptures, Ganesh ji is considered to be the psyche-son of Lakshmi ji. Both of them are worshiped on the auspicious occasion of Deepawali. Lord Ganesha came to be considered the 'adopted-son' of Mata Lakshmi. Mother Lakshmi was overjoyed to have Ganesh as her son and she gave this boon to Ganesh ji that whoever does not worship you with my worship, I will not be near him. Therefore, Lord Ganesha is always worshiped along with Lakshmi ji, her 'adopted-son'.
