Vitus Ozoke is a professor of Conflict Resolution and Law at Salisbury University in Maryland, USA. He has taught several courses in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methodologies, including Negotiation and Conflict Management in Business, Cross-Cultural Conflicts, Facilitation, Workshop Training, and Conflict Coaching. Vitus's fifteen years of experience teaching ADR, particularly Workshop Training, have culminated in this book. In his early years as a graduate instructor, teaching a facilitative course in Workshop Training and Conflict Coaching, Vitus adopted the same instructional approach and curriculum he had learned from his graduate studies. The course was designed to teach students how to assist a group in identifying its problems, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. It served as a method for root cause analysis, diagnosis, problem-solving, and intervention to address group deficiencies. The goal was to restore the organization to its previous level of functionality or achieve a specific target, often with a focus on minimizing negative outcomes. Those first couple of years did not go very well. The students were bored. Before you quip, "What's new?", Vitus was also bored. It was only after he overhauled and rebuilt the course from its foundation, using the concept, philosophy, and principles of Appreciative Inquiry as the organizing framework for group processes, that Vitus's students began to enjoy Workshop Training and Conflict Coaching. So did Vitus!
