"Arms and the Man makes an obvious attempt to disillusion the popular mind about its traditional romantic ideas of war and love. So, it is called an anti-romantic comedy—an attempt to ridicule certain views regarding life. And yet the play has been a continued success because of its very romantic qualities—its romantic characters, romantic ending and romantic atmosphere of gaiety and laughter.
