The book begins with a brief introduction to the background of the novel and Arundhati Roy’s life and her activities after winning the Booker Prize. Five chapters are dedicated to the themes and the writing techniques of the novel. They treat the issues of miscegenation and caste, gender roles in Kerala and attempt to reveal the narrator’s feminist strategy of recovering a lost past and exposing buried truth through narrative strategies such as time shift, or repetition.
