Julius Caesar decides that there’s only one way to deal with his little Gaulish problem: he gives away the village to a rather naive Legionary. Problem? The village was never his to give away! Asterix and Caesar’s Gift is the 21st action-packed instalment in Rene Goscinny and Albert Uderzo’s series of graphic novels. Summary of the Book When Legionaries retire, they’re always given good rewards. After all, Julius Caesar knows how to take care of his soldiers. However, in Legionary Tremensdelirius’ case, Caesar decides the uncouth soldier deserves an unusual reward: the Gaulish village that has proven to be such a nuisance to Caesar, for instance. Confused at receiving a village, Tremensdelirius decides to barter the gift away, doing so with the tavern landlord Orthopaedix. Orthopaedix is confused as well, what’s a man to do with a village? His wife begins fuelling his delusions of grandeur, and they close their tavern to go and claim their rightful ownership. However, they have no idea that the Gauls are about to give them a rude awakening. The village, and all the Gauls in it, do not heed the words of the mighty Caesar, and they will not budge. But what the Gauls don’t realize is just how much trouble an old couple can pose for their tiny hamlet.
