"At Variance" is intended for anyone who would like to know why, traditionally, the Church has taught that homosexual conduct is wrong. The book provides a concise rendering of the Christian arguments involved. The Reverend Doctor Scott argues the case for traditional morality based on a reasoned analysis of material in both the Old and New Testaments as well as setting out the logic of the Church's doctrine in this important area. In particular, drawing from the Church Fathers and from more recent works, he relates the quality and fidelity of the Church's mind in thinking about God with the moral integrity which issues from such reasoning. The author also considers the scientific and social implications of a departure from traditional Christian sexual morality and argues that the intelligibility of human life and thought and the coherence of Christian teaching are casualties of such a departure.
