This is a novel about love and war. Childhood, guilt and forgiveness become some of the main topics of the story. Summary of the Book Briony Tallis unexpectedly sees something happen between her sister, Cecilia, and Robbie Turner. Later that day, the three commit a crime that they will never forget their whole life. The consequences of the crime has a very large impact during the time. Robbie and Cecilia have crossed a boundary that will have an impact on young Briony’s imagination and this leads her to commit the crime. She may have to spend the rest of her life trying to apologize. About Ian McEwan Ian McEwan is an English novelist and screenwriter. The Times featured him on their list “The 50 greatest British writers since 1945”. He began his writing career with Gothic stories. The Cement Garden and The Comfort of Strangers were his first two novels and they earned him the nickname Ian Macabre. His novel, Atonement, was made into an Oscar winning film starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy.
