Summary of the Book When the cosmic entity that once possessed Jean Grey known as the Phoenix returns to Earth, and everyone thinks it is going to possess Hope, the young mutant born after the Scarlet Witch’s curse to stop the birth of future mutants. The Earth’s Mightiest Heroes recall the devastation that Phoenix brought the last time and they decide that the only way to keep the cosmic entity at bay is to kill Hope. However, the Avengers have another think coming to them if they believe that the X-Men are going to stand quietly and watch. At long last, these two teams clash in an epic free-for-all with the fate of the planet hanging in the balance. Who will win? More importantly, what will happen to the planet once Phoenix arrives?
