"STRESS is commonly used to describe the detrimental effects of a variety of conditions surrounding animals on their health performance. STRESS situation occurs due to environmental changes, transportation stress, removal of water and feed, heat stress, cold stress, intoxications, infections, disease conditions, vaccination, high density confinement, inappropriate space or unfavourable housing conditions, noise, motion, poor handling by man, high ambient temperature & relative humidity.These circumstances lead to huge economic losses in production. The adverse effects of these factors and their combinations may range from mild discomfort to fatal illness. STRESS situation has negative impact on feed intake, body weight gain, feed efficiency and overall performance of animals. It leads to reduction in the defence mechanism of animals. To combat this “Stress” situation, various inorganic minerals are fed to animals. Unfortunately, these compounds have low bioavailability, may irritate gastro-intestinal mucosa and decrease the digestibility of other nutrients. It has a negative effect on the environment by increasing the excretion of unutilized minerals. High dosage inorganic supplementation may pose a threat to the environment.
