It has a reputation as a sudorific and is useful in cases of rheumatism and sciatica. It is generally indicatedin acute or recent cases caused by exposure to dry cold air, dry north or west winds, or exposure to draughts of cold air while in a perspiration and bad effects of checked perspiration. In the early stages of rheumatic arthritis it is useful when the part are swollen, bright red, shining, sensitive to touch, and the fever is high.
