Jaborandi has been extensively used in ophthalmic practice for its mydriatic properties. Pilocarpus is a powerful glandular stimulant, produces hypersecretion from upper respiratory tract, salivary glands and abnormal sweats. A valuable remedy in limiting the duration of mumps. Its most important effects are perspiration, salivation and myosis. Acts upon the thyroid and its sudorific action may possibly be due to it. It is of most service in kidney disease, especially with uremia, eliminating both water and urea.
