In the initial pages, Jason Todd and Bruce Wayne are carrying out an investigation during which Jason behaves too impatiently and attacks the criminals. Enraged by his foolishness, Bruce relieves Jason of his duties and enquires about his family. However, Jason is too angry to have this conversation and walks out on Bruce. On his way home, he meets a neighbour who hands him a box containing a few of his father’s belongings. Inside the box he discovers a shocking secret about his life. Elsewhere, it is found that the Joker has escaped from the asylum and is killing people yet again using a nuclear weapon. When Batman learns of his whereabouts, he sets out to track him and destroy him. There he meets Jason, who is on a mission of his own. The book portrays Jason as an inconsiderate youth and shows how he often chooses to ignore instructions. Along the way, he learns a few life lessons when he makes a reckless decision involving the Joker. Batman: A Death in the Family was published between December 1988 and January 1989. It had a special feature wherein readers got to decide how the story would end. Their decision sealed the fate of Robin, Batman’s sidekick. About The Author Jim Starlin is an American artist and author who writes comic books. His career began in the 1970s and he is famous for his space operas and cosmic tales. He has drawn the comic The Secret Of Skull River, finished the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man, and has written Marvel: The End as well as many Batman stories, including Batman: The Cult. He and his wife have also co-written four novels, namely Among Madmen, Lady El, Thinning The Predators, and Pawns. Death is a recurring theme in the author’s writing. He has also personified death in some of his works. Starlin has won awards such as the Haxtur Award and the Shazam Award.
