Atul Gawande’s Being Mortal : Medicine and What Matters in the End is a detailed account of mortality and what it means for doctors around the world. Summary of the Book Doctors are paid to assure people they will live. However, what about those patients who are bound to die? What is a doctor’s duty towards them? They are never trained to ease the passing of life, to offer terminally ill patients a way towards solace and resignation towards their fate. In this book, Atul Gawande discusses what it means to be mortal. He writes about every doctor’s duty towards his patients and how he used his time as a surgeon to compare the attitudes of patients towards life and death.
