The 40W solar panel and charger can be used to charge a battery from a discharged state to a fully charged state. Once fully charged the charger shifts to a trickle charge/ float/ maintainer mode to prevent overcharging. (Overcharging can cause a battery to shed lead and lead dioxide, resulting in a decrease in battery's performance and life).The float mode ensures that the car battery is maintained in the fully charged healthy state, even if the car is left in the garage unused for many days. Simply keep the 40W solar panel outdoors facing the sun. Insert the DC Power Plug (5.5 x 2.1 mm) of the cable connected to the panel into the Charger input socket. The bright red LED indicator will light up when the solar panel is placed facing the sun. The open circuit charger output voltage from the charger would be limited to approx. 14.0 Volts.
