PrefaceIntroduced in 2008, the Gastroenterology SCE (Speciality Certificate Examination) is compulsory for trainees to gain a CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in this specialty. Candidates who have sat their written MRCP are familiar with the 'best of 5' format, where they select the best of five plausible comparable answers. This requires both knowledge and exam technique, which is often best achieved through practice questions.Currently exam preparation is hampered by the lack of available reliable practice questions. This textbook seeks to fill that void, consisting of 'best of 5 questions' that resemble the exam format, alongside explanatory answers. The question material was written with the 2010 syllabus in mind, and based on contemporary guidelines from the relevant bodies. These are cited for the reader along the way.Our goal was to create a valuable tool for all trainees revising for the SCE exam, as well as reference material for other professionals working in the specialty of gastroenterology. The questions were contributed by 13 Severn and South West Peninsula Deanery gastroenterology specialty trainees and the three of us; many of the authors have sat the SCE. Our authors were supported by consultants in the region and we offer our thanks to them all.We would also like to extend a 'thank you' to our friends and families, who might otherwise have seen more of us during the writing and editing process, but despite this offered support and encouragement. Finally a big thank you to Professor Chris Probert, without whose dedication and experience in editing, this book would not have been possible.Charlotte Rutter,Tina Mehta, andLeonard Griffiths
