In 1997, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of India's independence, Shri Shashank Mani, the author of this book, organized the “Azad Bharat Golden Rail Yatra”. In this journey more than 200 youth covered 7000 kms in 18 bogie special train. He traveled all over India, where he got a beautiful glimpse of the multi-faceted culture and rich history of his country. The author has kept the story of this train journey touching 12 destinations in front of the readers through this book. The vision behind this journey was that of India's independence.
