Microbiology is a rapidly evolving science. Since Louis Pasteur proved the existence of microbes of microorganisms, they have been studied by biologists. When Fleming discovered Penicillin, the wonder drug made by a variety of yeast, a new frontier was crossed by mankind. Preservation of food (including milk) for long time and new substances created by tiny organisms as well as diseases caused by them occupied biologists and doctors for a long time. Only near the end of 20th century, something qualitatively new happened when it became possible to introduce genes from one cell into another. Now, it is possible to introduce human genes into bacteria and make it produce insulin. This new technique of genetic engineering is also a part of microbiology.
