Bloodlines is the first of a new spin-off series based on the successful Vampire  Summary Of The Book Sydney Sage is an Alchemist. These are people who have special powers and help to maintain peace between humans and vampires. When the story of Bloodlines begins, Sydney is in disfavour with her own people. Sydney had helped in the escape of Rose Hathaway, and so, she is now viewed with suspicion by other Alchemists. She is in disgrace, but she is suddenly given a chance to redeem herself. She is asked to help guard Jill Dragomir who is the sister of Queen Vasilisa. The girl is at a boarding school in California. Sydney is told to enrol herself in the school and protect Jill who is under threat from the Moroi. Sydney is joined by a Dhampir, Eddie Castile and by Adrian Ivashkov, a spirit-user. Sydney has another reason for accepting the job. She wants to keep her younger sister Zoe away from Keith, who is the Alchemist in-charge of the Palm Springs area. She has a deep seated antagonism towards Keith, for a very good reason. While in the school, Sydney discovers that some of the students have become addicted to tattoos which are made of ingredients that induce euphoria and enhance performance. As the tattoos do not last long, the addicts have to get them renewed frequently. Sydney also discovers a strange bond that exists between Adrian and Jill. Meanwhile, she also looks into the mysterious deaths of some young girls, including Tamara, the niece of the man in whose house Adrian is residing. Sydney soon discovers who has been responsible for the disappearance of the young girls, and as she prepares for a confrontation, it gets more complicated as her friends are also caught in the web. Now, she has to find a way to neutralize the enemy and save not just herself, but also her friends. The end of Bloodlines finds resolution to certain questions while leaving other intriguing puzzles unsolved. Sydney stays back at the school to keep an eye on Jill. Richelle Mead was born in Michigan, USA in 1976. She holds three degrees, the first of which is a Bachelor of General Studies degree from the University of Michigan, the second is a master’s degree in Comparative Religion from Western Michigan University, and the third is a master’s degree in teaching from the University of Washington. She quit her teaching job after the publication of her first novel Succubus Blues.
