Born To Run: The Hidden Tribe, The Ultra-Runners, And The Greatest Race The World Has Ever Seen is a 2009 bestselling ethnography authored by Christopher McDougall. Summary of the Book Born To Run presents an incisive look into the sport of endurance running, through the lives of a unique Mexican tribe with extraordinary talent. The author tracks down the members of the Tarahumara Indian tribe in the Mexican Copper Canyons. Being a runner himself, the author appreciates the exceptional ability of the tribe to run over 100 miles at incredible speeds. The author is also amazed about the fact that these runners barely get the routine injuries that most of the American runners do. McDougall describes the way he overcame his injuries by modeling his running after the Tarahumara tribe. The author further re-iterates that modern customized running shoes are a major cause of running injuries these days. He writes that despite wearing thin sandals, the Tarahumara runners rarely face such issues. The book also provides information on why and how humans developed traits for endurance running. This book is being adapted into a movie and has been written and directed by Peter Sarsgaard. About Chris McDougall Chris McDougall is an American endurance athlete, journalist, and author. He has also authored Girl Trouble: The True Saga of Superstar Gloria Trevi and the Secret Teenage Sex Cult That Stunned the World. McDougall was born on January 1, 1962, in the United States. He graduated from Harvard University in 1985 and began his career in Lisbon as a correspondent for the Associated Press. Since then, he has written for various publications such as Men’s Health, The New York Times Magazine, and Esquire. McDougall is based out of rural Pennsylvania, where he stays with his wife and two daughters.
