A case study is a detailed study of a social unit, viz. a person, group, institution or the entire community. The method that we apply to gather facts, processes and sequences of events to make generalisations or principles about particular situations or patterns is known as the case study method. The case study method is greatly in vogue these days in studying various aspects of management, research and entrepreneurship as it serves many objectives, like putting textbook knowledge about management into practice, diagnosing problems, analysing and evaluating alternatives, making workable plans of action, and providing exposure to a range of managerial situations, thus offering a basis for useful comparisons. In a sense, cases are laboratory materials which offer a reasonable substitute for actual experience by bringing a variety of management problems and opportunities. The book Case Study Method: Theory and Practice is a pioneer attempt to present pertinent aspects related to case study method such as types, characteristics, basic assumptions, objectives, advantages, limitations, procedures, etc. The book also provides guidelines to make a good presentation of case, analytical tools for case study, and techniques for oral presentation, group discussion and industry analysis. It also contains some important case studies to enrich the reader’s experience about various situations. This book will be highly useful to the students of BBA, BBM, MBA and research scholars in the field of management. About the Author A.
