Amar Chitra Katha presents the story of the shrewd political strategist Chanakya, in comic book format. Summary Of The Book Chanakya was an intellectual who was also an extremely practical strategist. He lived during a time of political instability. Alexander was dead, but his conquests in Asia were ruled by Seleucus. If the Greeks planned an incursion into India, the territory was vulnerable, because the biggest kingdom in the country was ruled by an ineffectual king belonging to the Nanda Dynasty. Chanakya was a bold and clever man, a visionary with practical ideas. He wanted a strong ruler on the throne of the Nanda empire, to prevent the Greeks from obtaining an entry into India. He found a protege in an ambitious young man, Chandragupta. Chanakya then set about planning the downfall of the Nanda dynasty and installing Chandragupta on the throne. He thus helped found the powerful Mauryan Empire, which acted as a defense against foreign invaders for a long time in India’s history.
