One of the oldest fiber crops in the world, known to have been cultivated in Babylon. Burial chambers depict flax cultivation and clothing from flax fibres. The flax fibers were also used commercially to be spun into linen to provide clothing and other textile-related products. Flaxseed was used as food in Greek cuisine and for medicinal purposes by the Romans.
