Wings Of Fire - An Autobiography is the autobiography of the scientist and former President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. The book begins with describing his early years, and culminates with his role in the nuclear missile test that led him to be known as the ‘Missile Man of India’. The main content of the book is divided into four sections. The first is Orientation, the second is Creation, the third is Propitiation, and the fourth, Contemplation. Each section covers a stage in the life of Dr. Kalam. Orientation covers his early years. It begins with his birth into a middle class Tamil family in Rameshwaram and covers his schooling and graduation. It ends with his 6-month training program at NASA. The section Creation traces a period of 17 years, from 1963 to 1980. It show his transformation into a scientist of high repute. This section covers the time he spent at various NASA facilities in The US, including the Langley Research Center. Propitiation covers the period from 1981 to 1991, and traces the development of the nuclear missiles. Contemplation covers the period after this. The book has 24 photographs associated with the life of Dr. Kalam. Wings Of Fire - An Autobiography has been translated into various regional languages, including Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Marathi. It has also been translated into Chinese. A. P. J.
