Almonds are the edible seeds of the almond tree (Prunus dulcis), a deciduous tree in the rose family. While commonly called "nuts," they are actually the seeds within a drupe, a fruit with a hard outer shell. Almonds are native to the Middle East and are now grown in various climates, including those of the Mediterranean and parts of the United States.
