Mae Madden is the daughter of a poor Irish family. She is a bright and ambitious girl, but she knows that her opportunities are limited. She dreams of becoming a doctor, but she knows that her family cannot afford to send her to medical school.Mae eventually earns a scholarship to medical school, but she still faces many challenges. She is the only woman in her class, and she is often ridiculed by her male classmates. She also has to work part-time to support herself, which makes it difficult to study.Despite all of the challenges she faces, Mae perseveres and graduates from medical school at the top of her class. She then opens her own practice, and she quickly becomes one of the most respected doctors in the city.
