The subject of City Planning is highly technical and has a political agenda which ensures orderly development of cities and towns. The process of city development takes care of satellite communities who commute into and out of the city and share resources with it. Being an important subject, it is taught to all architecture and planning students in all the institutes offering B.Arch. and B.Planning courses. The Indian Institute of Architects, Mumbai and Institute of Town planners, New Delhi, India, also examine the candidates for their Associate Examinations. The basics of the subject are taught at Diploma and Post-Diploma levels in Architecture and planning. Civil engineering students study this subject at their Degree level as an optional subject. The subject also forms the part of GATE. This book has been developed as a Reference book basically for B.Arch. and B. Planning students. However its text may be useful to the Diploma and Post - Diploma students of Architecture and Planning and also to Civil engineering students. The book contains Ten Chapters which explain text of the City Planning with necessary figures. Each Chapter, being long, is divided into topics and sub- topics. While preparing this book, quite a good number of books and articles on the subject are referred.
