In his book, Civilization And Its Discontents Rev Ed Edition, the author throws light on the tensions that arise as a result of man’s innate desires and it’s prohibition in society. Summary Of The Book Civilization And It’s Discontents Rev Edition is a book that aims at drawing the link between the feeling of discontent that arises in human beings, from not being able to express themselves freely in society due to certain restrictions. He points out that a number of mankind’s desires are presently considered degrading, and harmful to society, at large. He further adds that there are severe punishments associated with committing these acts. Some of these acts include adultery and murder. He argues that the strict prohibition to these acts results in violent hostility towards leaders in authority. Through the course of this book, the author also deals with the subject of guilt, and indicates that it arises as a result of living in a civilized society. He also adds that although civilization in society was created for the happiness of mankind, it has resulted in his unhappiness. The author also deals with the subject of neurotic repression and guilt, referring to them as being the price paid by individuals to live together as a community. Published in the year 1930, this book is considered one of the best pieces of literature written by the author himself, being read largely across the globe. About Sigmund Freud The author of this book, Sigmund Freud, was also a renowned neurologist from Austria. Apart from this book, Freud wrote a number of other books as well. Some of the literary works of the author include The Standard Edition Of The Complete Psychological Works Of Sigmund Freud, Jokes And Their Relation To The Unconscious, and Beyond The Pleasure Principle. Freud was born on the 6th of May, 1856, and was favored greatly by his parents. Even though they lacked the finances, he was educated, completing with honors, in the year 1873. He also attended the University Of Vienna, where he completed his degree in philosophy, physiology, and zoology. In the year 1881, he obtained an MD. Due to his immense contribution to the field of psychoanalysis, he was named as the founding father of psychoanalysis. The author passed away on the 23rd of September, 1939, as a result of suffering from cancer of the oral cavity.
