After the Funeral is a detective novel by the Mistress of Crime, Agatha Christie. Summary of the Book When the wealthy Richard Abernathie dies, most of the people at his funeral assume he died of natural causes. After all he was a sixty-eight year old man. However, everyone is shocked when an attendee suddenly states that despite it being neatly covered up, it was clearly a murder. This sets the family lawyer, Mr. Entwhistle, on the trail of the murderer. Soon it becomes obvious that Richard was murdered. He had recently revised his will following the death of his only son and heir. The new will split his fortune among five of his surviving relatives and the widow of a brother who had died in the war. Events turn ugly when the curious attendee is bludgeoned to death in her sleep by repeated blows with a hatchet. Mr. Entwhistle has had enough and decides to call a rather small Belgian gentleman with a vendetta against murderers to help him on the case. The murderer had better hide his tracks well, for Hercule Poirot is on the case! About Agatha Christie Agatha Christie was an English novelist best known for her murder mystery novels.
