This is study of such colour schemes and modes as Glazed-tiling, Stucco and Painting, and stone inlay and mosaic (including Glass Mosaic), used for architectural decoration in Mughal buildings from Akbar to shah jehan (A.D. 1556-1658),with a through historical background. It traces the origin of each art to the remotest antiquities and style with a view to identify the source of inscription and to define the colourfulness of Mughal Architecture. Its first 1970 edition was long out of print and a second one was greatly needed. Much has been through over, worked and learnt during the last two decades and it called for a through reconsideration of the thing and revision of the data. It has been, accordingly, revised and updated, through the original scheme of chapters (l. introduction ; ll. Glazes-tile Decoration; lll. Mosaic, inlay and Glass-mosaic; and iv. Stucco and Architectural Painting) and sub-heads has not been altered. Errors and omission of the previous edition have been corrected and the work has been, corrected an the work has been updated by additional data (e.g on Man-Mandir Gwalior, Picture-wall of the Lahore, Ajanta, Tajmahal, Fatehpur, Sikri and the Theory of Indian Painting). Illustrations have been revised. Some plates have been replaced by better ones and some new are added to make it more illustrative and useful to the reader. The scheme of printing has also been revised to make it perfectly readable. All these improvements make it almost a new work, in a new format. About the Author Professor R. Nath (born :1933) was educated at St.john's college Agra. He passed his M.A History in I Dn with first position. He did his Ph. D. and D. Litt. On mughal monuments of Agra, fatehpur Sikri and Delhi from the Agra university. He taught history at Agra college,Agra and university of rajasthan, Jaipur, from where he retried as professor & head of the department of history & culture. He has finally settled down at Agra and is engaged in higher research in his discipline. He is dedicated to higher research in medieval Indian Architecture which he has studied in the field and worked at more than 50 historical sites at Delhi. Agra Fatehpur Sikri Mathura-Vrindaban, Gwalior , Chanderi, Khajuraho,Jaipur-Amer,Ajmer,Chittorgarh, Ahmedabad and Lahore, during the last three decades. He was recipient of several research followships. Including the prestigious Homi Bhabha Fellowship. He has authored 46 books ,12 monographs, 155 research-paper and 251 popular articles on Medieval Indian History,Culture,Art and Architecture. He has also been lecturing in India and abroad,including Harvard, and he is internationally recognized as authority on this subject .
