Comanche Moon is the fourth and final title in the Lonesome Dove series penned by Larry McMurtry. But chronologically, it is the second instalment of the narrative. It was adapted into a TV miniseries as well. Summary of the Book This title is the bridge novel between McMurtry's Dead Man's Walk and Lonesome Dove. Woodrow Call and Gus McCrae are still serving as highly regarded Texas Rangers and are in their middle years. Elisha Pease, the Texas Governor, sends a small troop of Texas Rangers, under the command of Captain Inish Scull, to the Llano Estacado in search of Kicking Wolf, the famous Comanche horse thief. Scull's famous horse called Hector is stolen and is taken to the Sierra Perdida by the daring Indians. This is done to give away the horse to the infamous Mexican bandit Ahumado. Scull, promoting McCrae and Call to Captains and guiding them to take the Ranger troop back to Austin, sets off on foot after Kicking Wolf. He is joined by the Kickapoo tracker Famous Shoes. Kicking Wolf is tied to a horse, by Ahumado, to be dragged away. He also takes Kicking Wolf's ally, Three Birds, prisoner. He wants to punish Three Birds by imposing a slow death. But Three Birds doesn’t let this happen, as he jumps off a cliff. About Larry McMurtry Larry Jeff McMurtry is an American novelist, bookseller, essayist, and screenwriter. Lonesome Dove won him the Pulitzer Prize and was adapted into a TV miniseries. He is also the co-writer of the adapted screenplay for Brokeback Mountain.
