Muga Silk, a variety of wild silk geographically tagged to the state of Assam in India and previously reserved for the use of royalty, was referred with the first reference probably in Valmiki's Kishkindha Kanda of Ramayana where the state of Magadha, Anga, Pundra, is termed as the Losha-Karanam-Bhumi and in Kautilya's Arthashastea, a political literature of the 3rd century BC, as Kausseya a highly sophisticated silk clothing.
