Despite the growing era of super specialization and hi-tech medicine, basic bedside medicine still remains the mainstay of clinical practice. Inspite of high tech machines for diagnosis, the patients symptoms are of utmost importance. In this era of evidence - based medicine and insurance, there is a great need for diagnostic flow-charts and algorithms. In a resource limited setting like India, it becomes more essential, since one has to practice cost - effective medicine. The predominant focus of symptoms is still primary- care based in India. However, even tertiary care physicians find symptomatology invaluable in day-to-day clinical practice.
