About the Book - This book is generally about the teaching and learning of English in India. It tries to problematise some major issues of significance in the classroom situation, pedagogy and the prevalent practices, while critiquing the systems which have given rise to such issues. These essays that interrogate the situation of English in the Indian classroom were written separately and over different periods of time, however, there is a certain commonality when read together. Their concerns are with the situation of English - the language from overseas and the literature available in that language-in the Indian classroom. It is hoped that this slim book will inspire the teacher of English and researcher in English to be more self-reflexive and critical in their concerns.
